Maximise Comfort and Space: Tips for Caravan Camping with an Annex - Share A Word
Contents
G’day, fellow camper! If you’re anything like me and like to camp with the family, you know you can never have enough space. That’s why adding an annex to your caravan can be a game-changer. Not only does it provide extra room to spread out, but it also offers a bit of privacy for those times when you need a break from your loved ones (we’ve all been there).
But, just like with any camping trip, there are ways to make your annex experience even better. Since I already have spent multiple trips camping with an annex, I’ll love to share some tips to help you maximise your comfort and space. So, sit back comfortably in your chair and let’s get started!
Planning Ahead
The first step to maximising comfort and space is to plan ahead. So, start by deciding on the purpose of your annex. Will it be a living area, a dining area, or a sleeping area?
Once you have a general idea of you’re going to use the extra space, you can choose the right size and layout and get an adequate caravan annex matting. For example, if you plan to use the annex as a sleeping area, you’ll need to make sure there’s enough room for everyone to sleep comfortably.
Organising the Space
Once you’ve decided on the purpose of your annex and chosen the right size and layout, it’s time to organize the space. This is where you can really maximise its functionality. Consider using storage solutions such as shelves, cupboards, and baskets to keep everything organised and tidy. You can also create different living areas within the annex, such as a lounge area and a dining area. And don’t forget to make the most of the sleeping arrangements. Consider using bunk beds or fold-out beds to maximize space.
Creating a Comfortable Environment
Temperature control is key here. Make sure you have a good-quality heater for colder weather and a fan for warmer temperatures. Lighting options are also important. Consider using LED strip lighting to create a cozy ambience. And when it comes to furniture, choose items that are comfortable and practical. For example, a sofa bed is a great option as it can be used as both a seating area and a sleeping area.
In addition to setting up your annexe to your maximum advantage, it’s also important to have the right flooring. Choosing the right annex matting is important for a number of reasons. Firstly, it provides a comfortable surface to walk and sleep on. Secondly, it helps to insulate your camping area, keeping it warm in colder weather. And finally, it can help to prevent dampness and mould from forming. That said, here are some tips to help you choose.
Factors to Consider When Choosing Annex Matting for Your Caravan
Materials
Foam matting is a popular choice for caravan annexes as it provides a comfortable and insulating surface to walk and sleep on. It’s often made from high-density foam and can come in various thicknesses and densities. It’s easy to clean, lightweight, and can be rolled up for storage.
Mesh is another great option. It’s made from a mesh-like material that is designed to allow water and dirt to pass through easily, making it a great choice for outdoor use. Mesh flooring is also lightweight, easy to clean, and can be rolled up for storage. However, it is not as insulating as foam flooring and may not be as comfortable to walk on.
PVC is a durable and waterproof alternative that is ideal for outdoor use. It’s made from heavy-duty PVC material and can come in various thicknesses and colours. PVC matting is easy to clean, can withstand heavy foot traffic, and is resistant to mould and mildew. However, it may not be as comfortable to walk or sleep on as foam.
Size
Before purchasing annex flooring, you should measure the size of your annex to determine the appropriate dimensions. Measure the length, width, and height of the annex, taking into account any obstructions or irregularities that may affect the fit.
While it could seem like a good idea to have your mat extend beyond the size of the awning, I don’t recommend exposing it (or part of it) to continuous, direct sunlight. Most people choose a caravan ground mat that fits beneath the shade and protection of their awning.
You can consider installing a second, smaller mat for this purpose that can be quickly brought back inside without disturbing the larger flooring if you do need more space during social gatherings that extend outside.
To Sum Up
Caravan camping is a great way to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy nature. Using an annex can help you create your ideal caravan camping experience. Additionally, with the right awning mat, you can keep your space clean and comfortable while having all the comforts of home.
