A Beautiful Smile – The Window to a Healthier and Happier Life
They say “you are never fully dressed without a smile” and this couldn’t be more true. Smiling frequently makes you more attractive, relieves stress, helps you stay positive and changes your mood for the better! Yup, the power of positive vibes! And since in the world of today there are many things you could do to make your teeth look as white and shiny as possible, it is always a good idea to mind your daily oral habits. Your happiness and health are at stake, so it is time to make your oral health your priority. Take a look at the basic steps.
Regular Dentist Check-Ups
Visiting your dentist every couple of months for check ups is a sure way to prevent tooth decay. But do not wait to have a toothache to make an appointment – feeling pain is usually the last stage of having serious teeth issues. Besides for health reasons, today many people make dentist appointments in a cosmetic dentistry clinic for aesthetic reasons as well. Many turn to these professionals to help them get rid of teeth problems that stop them from smiling more often. After visiting a reputable cosmetic dentistry clinic, pigmentation, misaligned or misshaped teeth, gaps and similar, will be a thing of the past.
Develop Healthy Oral Habits
Regularly brushing and flossing (and occasionally using mouthwash) should be a part of your daily routine. Make sure to brush your teeth twice a day – in the morning and before going to bed. Use tooth floss after every meal as having even one miniature piece of food stuck between your teeth could do a lot of damage. But the thing is, you could be brushing your teeth regularly for years and still end up damaging them more than actually cleaning them. Many of us don’t realize until it’s too late that they’ve been doing it wrong the whole time. We either do it too hard for too short, or have a completely wrong technique. Proper brushing is done when moving the brush horizontally against your teeth without applying a lot of pressure and it takes at least two minutes. To make sure you do it for just the right amount of time, next time start internally singing your favourite song; unless it’s Bohemian Rhapsody and it actually makes you late for work.
Be Careful What You Eat
In many cases, having a sweet tooth, if not paying much attention, can surely lead to having a rotten tooth too. Artificially sugared foods like candy and soda are the main cause for tooth decay. Sugar may not be a very nutritious substance for you, but it surely is to the bacteria living in your mouth. These bacteria feed like crazy on sugars and can stick to your teeth while producing acids that break down the healthy enamel protection. Also, avoid any kind of acids, meaning, avoid adding too much vinegar in your salad and skip the pickles. To keep your teeth in a good condition, replace the candy and sour food for yogurt that has probiotic that fight off bad bacteria, some leafy greens rich in calcium to build up the enamel, or some juicy fruit, like apples, which is sweet but it is also rich in fibre and water and prompts saliva production.
