It’s in women’s nature to think about the health and the appearance of their skin. Although there are some who really don’t pay that much attention to their skin, a great number do, and a lot.
With the high number of new promising serums, face creams and moisturisers, sometimes finding the right one for your skin type can be like looking for a needle in a haystack. Those of you who follow the most popular Instagram beauty influencers like Huda Kattan, Camila Coelho, our Aussie girl Chloe Morello and many more are surely overwhelmed by the many face products promoted and you might want to try them all. But the truth is that these girls don’t have the same skin type, just like the rest of us, which means that everyone should do their own research in order to find the right products according to the skin type.
Oily Skincare Routine
Women with oily skin usually experience a lot of shine and greasiness, have lots of large pores and are prone to blackheads and breakouts. This is because of the high level of sebum which on the other hand helps the skin to age better.
In the morning, this skin needs to be cleansed with a gentle cleanser and treated with lightweight moisturiser and oil-free sunscreen. The procedure at night is somewhat similar consisting of cleaning the skin with a gentle cleanser and applying lightweight moisturiser or night face cream. Except for these simple things, one can also use an AHA cleanser, BHA serum, as well serums that include ingredients like salicylic acid and glycolic acid which are great for oily skin.
Note: Sunscreens are a must for every skin type, regardless of the time of the year.
Sensitive Skincare Routine
As the name implies, this is considered the most delicate skin of them all. It flushes easily, giving the person a burning and itchy sensation, followed by bumps, red patches and erythema. That is why skincare for sensitive skin is the gentlest and sometimes even appropriate for babies, especially when talking about a natural products. In the morning, women with this skin type should use a gentle cleanser in the form of oil or milk, then a soothing moisturiser which should be followed by sunscreen application. Women with sensitive skin should keep in mind that it is best to choose natural skincare for sensitive skin that is free from alcohol and artificial fragrances. The night procedure is exactly the same as the morning one, with the only difference that at night, one can apply some calming serums which can feed and soothe during the night. Vitamin K, niacinamide, shea butter, squalene, chamomile, Aloe Vera, cucumber and green tea are some of the main ingredients sensitive skincare products should contain.
Combination Skincare Routine
Women with combo skin type have an oily T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) and normal skin across the cheeks. Depending on the season, this skin type can change from oily to dry or even act as a normal skin type. The cleaning and treating routine should consist of gentle cleansers, water-based moisturiser and lightweight oil-free sunscreen. It is also recommended for these products to contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid, lactic acid and vitamin B.
Dry Skincare Routine
Dry skin is usually flaky, dry and rough, with visible shedding and fine lines around the forehead and eyes. Oils are most appropriate type of cleanser for dry skin, nourishing face cream and sunscreen are the ideal products to be used in the morning, while at night, only gentle cleaners can do this type of skin right. Instead of daily face cream, at night, women with this skin type should apply a rich and moisturising night cream in order to feed the skin really good. Shea butter, moringa and rosehip oil are the main ingredients one should look for in such products.
Normal Skincare Routine
Normal skin is the best and the rarest in fact. Women with this skin type do not experience breakouts, dryness or oiliness. This skin can literally tolerate almost all skincare products, however, the ones containing vitamin C, AHA’s, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide are a must. In the morning, these women should clean their faces with a face cleanser for normal skin and apply a lightweight moisturiser and sunscreen. At night, the routine should be followed by cleaning the skin and applying a nourishing night cream.
