Accent Chair: A Functional Piece of Furniture with Flair
I’ve never been one to spend money or time on fashion. Just give me a pair of comfortable flats, some cool jeans, a baggy monochromatic shirt and I’m all set to get on with the day. Although I’m a bit ashamed to admit, but I haven’t changed my one-and-only handbag for a couple of years now. It’s cool, it’s undamaged and has enough space to store my wallet, smartphone and water bottle. Why change?
But when it comes to the interior design of my place, well that’s a whole different story. I will always go out of my way to make it look fancy and in line with my taste and current trends. And as with fashion, you always need an accessory to finalize your look. I’ve learned that if the design of the room is the outfit, then the accent chair is the ultimate jewellery that makes it pop.
Accent chairs are a decorating treat and one of the easiest ways to add flair to a dull room and express your own personal style. Moreover, they are small mobile pieces which are easy to move wherever there’s a need for extra sitting. These means that these furniture pieces are equal parts decorative and functional.
Out of all furniture pieces, accent chairs are perhaps the most fun to shop for. There are many models that experiment with colours and textures – ranging from sophisticated to extravagant ones, bohemian to tribal, traditional to contemporary chairs – so there’s something out there for everyone. You can also choose between stationary chairs and ones that rock, armchairs with recliners or small backless poufs. You also get to choose a model coming with a complementing ottoman just for that extra feet comfort.
Accent chairs are the proof that you don’t need something big and expensive to denote style and taste. Thanks to the many beautiful designs of contemporary chairs, any room can be instantly refreshed. And don’t worry about mismatching, that’s the beauty of the accent chair – it’s free of any constraints regarding the predominant colour of the room. Actually, the more it stands out the better, for it can be just the perfect signature piece.
Even though accent chairs allow you a lot of freedom regarding patterns and colour, there are certain factors you need to consider, such as size. If you have a large spacey room, you’ll have no problem to fit in a bulky comfortable armchair right in the corner of it, where it could serve as the perfect reading spot. But if you’re strapped for space, you might want to consider some of the smaller unobtrusive options such as an ottoman or a cute armless chair.
All things considered, I’ll take a comfortable, good-looking chair over a new designer bag time and time again! Not only does it serve as my own private reading spot, but I’ll also get a focus point in the room and a spare sitting space. If you shop right, you too can get one piece of furniture that does the work of three.
