Wardrobe Tips for Older Women: Look Stylish No Matter Your Age
Contents
Most of us may benefit from a wardrobe reevaluation by the time we reach 50. Over the years, our bodies, faces, and habits have changed. Our fashion choices, on the other hand, haven’t always kept up. That said, if it’s been a long time since you’ve last updated your wardrobe, now’s the perfect time to do it.
No matter how old you are, it’s totally possible to exude style if you know how to flaunt your body in a way that works for you. To help you, I’ve compiled some of the most useful advice for navigating the complicated world of fashion for older women.
Find Skirts That Flatter Your Body
Wearing a short skirt somewhere other than the tennis court or the beach can appear inappropriate. Even if you were an athlete or a yoga instructor, a thigh-baring skirt or dress looks cheesy and as if you’re attempting to be younger than you are.
Therefore, when shopping for older women skirts, look for maxi or knee-length designs. When a skirt stops right at the knees or just below them, it elongates your legs and shows off your calves, giving you a more youthful appearance.
If you want to go for a Bohemian vibe or just want to keep cool and protect your skin in the summer, you can choose a full-length skirt that flows down. However, skirts or dresses that finish in the middle of your calves should be avoided because they highlight the thickest area of your legs and make your legs appear bigger than they are.
The shape of the skirt, in addition to its length, affects whether it will look nice on you. A pencil skirt, on the other hand, is meant to flatter most body types. It’s also quite easy to style because it matches with so many different tops. The same goes for A-line older women skirts as well. Make sure the skirt has a high waistline that fits you well and flares just over your broadest point for this skirt form to work its magic.
For a more casual style, pair a skirt with a thicker heeled shoe like a pump or a wedge. If you want to look dressier, you can take the same skirt and put on some stunning stilettos.
Invest in Good Jeans
To be clear, I’m not talking about super skinny denim jeans with a low rise. For older ladies, a great pair of trouser cut, straight leg or wide leg jeans look fantastic. Try a trouser cut or boot cut jeans if you’re a little larger on the bottom, as the flare will help draw attention away from your midsection and make you appear somewhat taller.
Get dark blue jeans with no fading or whiskering (which are ugly on most of us anyway). In chilly weather, tuck them into tall boots with flat ballerina slippers, moccasins, loafers, or kitten heels. Wear with wedge shoes and tunic tops in the summer, or a clean blue jacket and white top in the winter.
Look for jeans that include at least 2% spandex or lycra. This will allow the jean to stretch enough and fit your body and control any troublesome spots.
Wear Tasteful Jewellery
The accessories category is one place where older ladies usually seem to go awry. Rather than wearing every piece in your jewellery box every day, concentrate on wearing one standout piece at a time.
Also, remember the saying “More is less”. Many ladies wear large statement necklaces, which I believe look unsophisticated and cheap most of the time. It has the potential to make an outfit stand out in the wrong manner. It’s more fashionable to err on the side of simplicity than to look overwhelming with excessive bling and jewellery.
Don’t Be Afraid of Colour
There’s no reason why you should have to ignore your love of colours and dress in neutrals simply because you’ve reached a particular age. In fact, if something makes you look older than you are, then it’s a bland outfit that lacks a pop of colour.
If your skin tone is darker, you’re fortunate since you can wear practically any bright, brilliant hue. The more vibrant, the better. Start with the colour of your eyes if you have lighter skin and are worried about seeming washed out. This looks great on everyone!
Flaunt What You’ve Got
Many ladies over 50 are self-conscious about certain parts of their bodies. If you’re going to be more conservative with one aspect of your body, make up for it by emphasising another. For instance, if you don’t want to bring attention to your shoulders, have a leg moment. Or if you’re worried about your hips, show some cleavage. Highlighting the parts you love about you can certainly help in boosting your confidence.
